This crossover upgrade rebuilds the stock crossover with some small tweaks to soften a peak and to better balance the impedance.
- The Polycap upgrade supplies all new crossover parts, but reuses one stock coil used in a notch filter to save on cost and space.
- The Sonicap upgrade supplies all new crossover parts, including the large coil in the notch filter.
Both versions also come with new OFC wire, solder, heat shrink, a set of tube connectors & 1 sheet of NoRez

I am newer to GR Research and I appreciate the upgrade paths that are offered by Danny. I went for the Sourcepoint 8 upgrade with stock polycaps, reusing the inductor for the mid-woofer notch filter. I upgraded one speaker first so I could A-B the before and after impact. At first I thought the upgrade was mild, but admittedly I did not spend much time doing the comparison. I then upgraded the second speaker and did a few hours of listening to music and videos. The results are better than my initial impression – this revised crossover with higher quality components is a solid winner. The natural presentation of the Sourcepoint 8 sound was enhanced with more clarity and spaciousness in the soundstage. The soundstage depth and width improved (for the first time sounds we’re not only to the front and sides but also behind me) and the new clarity established by the crossover design pushed the sound field into territory these speakers did not have before yet were latent in the speaker matching from low to high band frequencies. In effect, the true potential of the speakers was unlocked and resulted in an improvement that is worth cost and time of this upgrade. Like any system upgrade, the related components have to be up to the task of revealing the sounds this speaker pair can produce. If you have the source/preamp/amp or integrated components that exceed the capability of the Sourcepoint 8’s and you want to squeeze the performance out of these speakers, I highly recommend this kit. This upgrade makes it easy to keep the Mofi Sourcepoint 8’s in use for a very long time.
