I have to admit, when I received the upgrade kit for my Sony SSCS5’s I was more than a little intimidated. I bought a simple soldering iron and a 2 foot square piece of 1/4″ MDF to build the crossovers. Watched a few YouTube videos and looked at a couple of examples on audio forums. Long story short, I finished assembling and installing the upgrade kit. All I can say is WOW!!! I am absolutely in love and blown away by the clarity and transparency. These little guys perform! Blues, Jazz, Rock, vocals, all sound so nice! I plan to replace my 40-year-old towers with these upgraded Sony’s and an RSL 10S MKii subwoofer.
    Thank you for the upgrade!

Buy this NOW! You’ll be glad you did. Read on for more story and details. — I bought the SS-CS5s because of the great reviews for budget level speakers. However, after 3-4 weeks and one particular 2-3 hour listening session I noticed my ears were very uncomfortable and ached. The discomfort went away after a few days of rest, but returned with every listening session. I listen to music at around 70db in my living room, so not too loud, and was very frustrated with the experience. After looking around on audio forums for explanations and recommendations for hearing fatigue I stumbled onto this upgrade from GR Research. Watched the videos on GoogleTube, bought immediately, and had a lot of fun building this project in my garage. So how does it sound? It’s like all the clouds in the auditory sky were gently rolled away and the sun shone warmth on a breezeless spring day. Like cool water from a clear mountain spring to quench a dry thirst. The smell of vanilla in banana bread fresh from the oven. It just felt so “clean”. The previous unending subconscious work my brain accomplished to filter out “noise” and “hear” disappeared, and only musical pleasure remains. Thank you, so so much.
