The hard part is removing the two rows of staples from the bottom of the speaker.

Largest improvement is removing the .7 treble harshness, mids are much clearer, cleaner and smoother without taking away the Magnepan sound signature we all crave for. Feels like I am getting a new speaker, best bang for the buck. Thank you Danny and the GR Research team!

I wanted to write a little about my experience with the GR-Research upgrade for the Magnepan 0.7.
By the way, your instruction videos are very helpful. I am soldering better than ever before.
When I first thought about doing this, I hoped to put the crossover inside the 0.7.
Seeing the space available, I quickly changed my mind and did an external crossover.
I managed that and the results have been very gratifying.
After that, I visited a Magnepan dealer and heard a Magnepan 1.7x.
I wanted to see what the difference between the GR upgraded 0.7 and the Magnepan 0.7x ($4000) might be.
I preferred my GR modified 0.7.
The 0.7x continues with the original input panel with its steel jumper and fuse.
Talking to the very helpful salesperson, I found out Magnepan had used first order crossovers for the mid-base and tweeters.
That meant that they only had to find room for the inductor for the mid-base and a capacitor for the tweeter.
That is why they continue to need the fuse for the tweeter.
The GR-Research mod has two inductors that need to be maybe 8 inches apart or perpendicular to each other.
There isn’t much space to keep them apart, and turning the small inductor would make it protrude from the plane of the speaker (about 1 inch thick).
I have thought about trying to fit the smaller inductor behind the GR-Research input panel that has 3 pairs of inputs using just one pair for the input to make room for the small inductor behind the input panel.
Then the inductor for the mid-base could be mounted on the opposite side of the original crossover space.
I don’t know whether that would actually work. It would also leave 4 unused holes in the input panel.
The conclusion is that I am very pleased to have the GR modified 0.7s rather than the 0.7xs.
