Magnepan 3.7i Upgrade kit (Pair)
$1,169.00 – $1,269.00
This upgrade is for a pair of speakers.
Includes all of the components and wire needed to upgrade the crossovers for the Magnepan 3.7i & includes 4 sets of tube connectors to allow for an easily removable external crossover.
This kit now includes a replacement backplate to mount the additional sets of tube connectors.
Disassembly for this speaker is a two-person process due to their size and how fragile the inner MDF frames are if they are not handled carefully.

Well, I bit off this project, which ended up being a lot more intense than I initially imagined it would be. You’ll be greeted with a box of parts, a circuit diagram, some wire, and a tiny bit of solder. You will not get a replacement jack plate, although one is supposed to be included.
I’ve never put a crossover together, so I ended up staring at the parts laid out for a few weeks before I got the courage to put them together. I built the wood boxes, put together the crossover parts, and made several calls to GR and to Magnepan to get more clarification about certain things (positive and negative terminals, mainly). The crossovers were built and I knew which terminals and wires I was looking for inside the Maggies (which are not the same as GR has in the photos). Per Magnepan, as you look at the front of the panels, the positive terminal always on the left, the negative on the right. For the ribbon, the green wire is + and the yellow wire is -.
Magnepan surgery day arrived, which took about 10 hours to do the required deconstruction, soldering, modifications, fabrication of new custom terminal plate, painting, reconstruction.
So, now that it’s all done, how does it sound? In a word, phenomenal! These are completely different speakers than stock. I grew up listening to MGIIIa’s which always had the most lifelike quality to them. The 3.7i’s in stock form never really had that magic. Well, I can tell you they do now.
So, was it worth it? Would I do it again? Without a doubt…
