Need a flatpack?

GR-Research and Denton Woodworkers have teamed up to offer flatpack’s, assembled and finished cabinets for a number of our DIY kits. All flatpack’s are CNC’ed for precise fittings which makes the project much easier.

Currently the X-Statik is the top model in the X Series line. The X-Statik utilizes dual mid-bass drivers in an open baffle configuration. This allows for a very open sound with great imaging and transparency. It creates a very layered and three dimensional sound stage. However, just as with any open baffle design, these must be pulled three feet or more out into the room. They cannot be used against a wall or in a corner of the room.

The DIY kit includes everything but the cabinets and uses the M-165-16 woofers and the latest version of the T26SG tweeter. Crossover parts are high quality throughout. Crossover must be assembled and are to be point to point wired. The kit also includes binding post cups, wire, screws, solder, and heat shrink.

The X-Statik represents the top model in the X-Series product line. As a completed product once produced by AV123 it  was reviewed by Affordable Audio, AV Guide, Gear Patrol, Audioholics, and the Absolute Sound, winning their Top Value award and an Editors Choice award. Stereo Mojo also gave it a Best of Show at RMAF 2008. The latest version is even better using top level parts throughout.

The X-Statik impedance is a nominal 6 ohms and dips to 4 ohms at 275Hz. The sensitivity averages 90db . The in room -3db down point will vary from room to room from high 40's to upper 60's.

The X-Statik's lower woofers utilize a sealed box design design for clean and tight bass that can be easily blending to a sub.

They are ideal for two channel and home theater applications.

A Sonicap and tube connector upgrade will take clarity and detail levels into the leagues of the cost no object speakers. The tube connectors are the highest quality connectors currently on the market. They offer improved clarity across the board and are extremely easy to install. The tube connector upgrade is $50. Lining the cabinets with No Rez is also recommended. You will need two sheets of No Rez for the pair.

I purchased a kit when it was the original kit from A123 Audio & the cross over was prebuilt… & the price was closer to $400. I did not opt for any upgrades. (Years later… which I had).

Building the cabinets was non trivial… I started 3 times. The completed speakers do look phenomenal… which is nice since they’ll be sitting in my living room till I die.

My ears probably aren’t the best… but every person I’ve had visit & listen to them provide unsolicited comments:
    – Those speakers sound REALLY nice! I mean really! (Like I didn’t know)
    – Those are the best sounding speakers I’ve ever heard.

I have full 7.2.4 surround… I sometimes get comments: That cebter speaker sounds amazing! I have to convince them the system is in stereo mode … let them touch the edge of the driver with their finger tips b4 they’re convinced the center channel isn’t on.

    Purchased X-Static kit 3/10/2022 order number 225453
Downloaded the plans for enclosures as I planned to make enclosures myself. Being a woodworker, having the skills and equipment, and interest, to complete project myself. I can tell you it was a project that was so satisfying, and the sense of accomplishment was through the roof. Especially when I can listen to these beauty’s everyday. I’m no tech snob or audiophile snob by any means, but the.clarity, the soundstage, non fatiguing characteristics of this speaker is outstanding. I was blown away by the difference these speaker has over the speakers that I was listening to before. The jumbled muddyness my older speakers exhibited was revealed.
I also ordered and completed the Double Trouble open baffle kit. This open baffle H sub woofer just rocks. Super fast, clean bass, I never heard such clean bass lines ever. It brings new life to older recordings of the 60’s, rock, soul, jazz, pop. Paired with the X-Statik’s, I couldn’t ask for more.
If I had a listening room big enough I would get the NX Extremes.

I have been an owner of the X-statiks now for a couple of years and have never looked back. It was my first DIY speaker and needless to say I was a little nervous. After watching a few online videos and talking to Danny I went ahead and started the project. I had a great time building the speakers and wiring the crossovers was pretty straight forward.
I was absolutely blown away by the clarity and detail that these speakers were able to produce. They just seemed to get better and better as the components burned in.
The sound stage is 3 dimensional and lifelike. The highs are silky smooth and not fatiguing at all.
Then I talked to Hobbs about what could be a next step on this journey and he suggested a pair of 12 inch servo subs. So I built a pair of those and Wow what a difference those made.
In closing I just want to say I could not be happier with these speakers and now I want to start a set of NX series speakers.
